Online Safety

Safer Internet Day 2022 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday, 8th February with the slogan: ‘All Fun and Games - Exploring Respect and Relationships Online".

Globally, Safer Internet Day is celebrated in over a 140 countries, coordinated by the joint Insafe/INHOPE network, with the support of the European Commission, and national Safer Internet Centres across Europe.

In the UK, Safer Internet Day is coordinated by the UK Safer Internet Centre and the  campaign sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help start a national conversation about safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

Bishops Down is participating in Safer Internet Day on Wednesday 8th February 2022! This is a nationwide event to focus children on the dangers and issues of the internet, at the same time as celebrating the good that can come from it. The theme this year is: ‘All fun and games - Exploring respect and relationships online’, with a focus on online gaming.

As part of the day the children will be having an assembly about internet safety issues and will also be discussing these in their classes at an age-appropriate level. We will also be using Purple Mash (the website we use to teach computing) to run a competition!

A ‘2Do’ has been set up with instructions about what the children need to do to enter the competition at home. This means that when they log in to Purple Mash and click on the ‘2Do’ button it will take them straight to the activity.

The competition is to design a poster about internet safety using the SMART targets shown here.  We have asked our children to use this as their example and to create a design with their own amazing flare - they can be as creative as they wish!

A selection of staff will be judging the winners. There will be 2 winners, one for KS1 & EYFS, and one for KS2. The winners will have their posters displayed around the school!
