Year 6- Oak
Welcome to Year 6 Oak!
Our teacher is Mr Matt Bailey.
Our teaching assistant is Mrs Kate Smith.
Our Drop in Day for Parents each week is: Tuesday
Our topic is Unique
This term in English we will be reading ‘Wonder’ by R.J Palacio, which details the story of a young boy named August. August, also known as Auggie, was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school – until now. Auggie is just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. Can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, despite appearances?
This term the children will have the opportunity to write in role, produce poetry, diary entries, soliloquys and newspaper articles. Through discussions, role play and analysis of the text the children will begin to immerse themselves into the mind of August Pullman; questioning his role within Beecher Prep.
This term in maths we will continue to consolidate and apply our knowledge of decimals and percentages, with a large focus on perfecting our recall of multiplication facts at speed. Also, in the last few weeks of term, we will begin to start our topic of measurement. This will cover units of measure, shapes, finding the area, perimeter and volume in a variety of contexts.
This term we have an exciting new science topic; Chemistry! We hope that through these exciting and engaging lessons we can ignite a real ‘flame of enthusiasm’ (safely of course!)
From ancient Greece to the present day, mankind has puzzled over the nature of matter and why materials behave the way they do.
Particle theory helps to explain properties and behaviour of materials by providing a model which enables us to visualise what is happening on a very small scale inside those materials.
The lessons this term are split into two sequences; Particle Theory itself, and an introduction to simple chemical reactions.
