What are we learning this term?

 

 

 

Our Topic – A long long time ago

We will be looking at what it was like on earth a long long time ago. We are going to focus particularly on the age of the Dinosaurs. The children are going to be set a challenge to set up their own Dinosaur Park. To achieve this goal we will be asking the children to creating their own Dinosaur puppets. They will be learning how fossils are made and making their own fossil. They will be making observational drawings of the bones on the Dinosaur. They will be comparing what it was like on Earth when the Dinosaurs lived to what it is like now. The children will be visiting The Natural History Museum and receiving a visit from Tunbridge Wells local museum. They will be making their own Dinosaur score of music. In ICT they will be given the opportunity to make their own labels for their Dinosaurs and to research the facts of Dinosaurs to help hem make an information text.

 

Numeracy

 

Through out the year I will focusing on Time and Money embedding it into the daily life of the children.

This term we will be comparing, ordering, reading and writing numbers from 0 to at least 20 in a number square number line etc

Looking at numbers names.

Solving problems involving counting, adding and subtracting using the correct signs + = and -.

Patterns and properties of numbers and shapes.

Estimating and counting at least 20 objects and recognising that when rearranged the quantity stays the same.

Deriving and recalling pairs of numbers that total 10

Using diagrams to sort objects into groups.

 

Literacy

This term will be reading a variety of fairy tales and looking at the main components of them. The children will be looking closely at the characters, settings and plots of the story. They will be creating their own short play and story book based on a fairy tale they have read.

 

The children will also be looking at Information books. We will be looking at how to use an information book using the index and contents pages. The children will be using these information books to make their own information book about Dinosaurs and Fossils.
