This term we will be starting our topic by thinking about “All About Me”.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
The children have shown a real interest in and curiosity about their senses and how their bodies work; asking questions such as 'Why do we have bones?' and 'Do our eyes grow?'.
Together we will be trying to answer these questions. We will be finding out about the different parts of our body such as our skeleton, skin, eyes, ears, noses and mouths. We will be thinking about the different and very important jobs each part plays.
We will also be thinking about what it means to be healthy and what we can do to stay fit and healthy. Together we will be looking at different foods and sorting these into healthy/unhealthy. We will be trying foods we may not have tried before and having a go and making our own healthy smoothies!
Creative
This term we are going to be focusing on story-telling and using actions and drama to support this. We will be encouraging the children to create their own versions of well known stories and using puppets or masks to act these out.
Communication, language and literacy / Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
We will be using this topic as a basis for our CLL and PSRN work.
CLL
We will be continuing to explore fiction and non-fiction texts and using information books to find out facts about our body.
We will be learning new language to do with our topic such as skeleton, healthy, unhealthy and senses.
We will be continuing with our phonics and applying what we have learned in both reading and writing. We will be working on writing for a variety of purposes and writing simple sentences. We will be trying to remember to use finger spaces and full stops in our writing.
We will be trying hard to form our letters correctly, please use the handwriting book to support your child and encourage them to say the letter patter aloud when forming their letters.
PSRN
This term we will be continuing extend children’s number recognition, especially of those numbers from 10-20.
We will also be introducing the concept of money, identifying the different coins and thinking about their value. We will be providing a range of opportunities for the children to handle the coins, encouraging them to sort, order and use the coins independently.
You may like to support your child at home by allowing them to handle the different coins, play shopkeepers and practise giving the correct amount and maybe offering change. Encourage your child to buy something small from the local shop and encourage them to find the correct coins.
Physical development
This term Willow Class will have P.E on Thursday afternoon. Chestnut Class will have P.E on a Friday afternoon. We will be using this slot for some gross motor control and small equipment sessions; where possible we will link this to our topic. The children also have the opportunity to access our outdoor area throughout the day and have access to a range of both small and large equipment.
Personal, social and emotional development
Together we will be thinking about how we look after ourselves such as brushing our teeth, keeping clean, staying active, eating a variety of food.
We will also be thinking about other people that help us look after ourselves such as nurses, doctors, dentists and our Mummies and Daddies.
Together we will be looking at our finger prints and will be talking about how each one of us is unique, celebrating our similarities and differences.
