Parent Staff Association

Bishops Down PSA

Who are we?
The Parent Staff Association is a charity affiliated to the school. All the parents and staff at Bishops Down Primary School are members. The committee are trustees of the charity and organise social events to raise funds for “little extras” around the school.

What do we do?
As parents you are automatically members of the PSA. The committee meets approximately twice every half term to coordinate activities. The events we generally organise are:

-      Quiz Night for adults
-      Christmas Fair
-      Summer Camp-out for all
-      Sponsored event for children
-      Cake Sales for anyone with a sweet tooth
-      Second Hand Uniform sales
-      Summer Fair
-      Teas at school event
-      Dragon Boat Race

We generally raise £10,000 to £11,000 per academic year; which is donated to the school. Examples of what the PSA has funded include computers, interactive white boards throughout the school, the steel pans and the assault course. We also fund smaller regular items such as visiting theatre groups and Year 6 leaving events. This year we have also purchased new furniture for the revamp of the school library.

How do parents get involved?
Primarily, attending the events and supporting our donation requests (used uniform, toys, books, jams, cakes and other random things…)

Next, some time helping run events is really appreciated – an hour or so setting up, clearing away or running a stall.

Joining the committee – new committee members with zeal and new fundraising ideas are highly welcomed. This is a great way to meet other parents, and we have 4 dads on the committee!

Providing a raffle prize for the big draws at Christmas and Summer. These can be requested from local businesses or may be something you can provide yourself.
Join our 200 Club lottery for the chance to win a cash prize each month whilst raising funds for the school.

The 200 Club is a lottery registered with Tunbridge Wells Council to generate a steady income for the school.

The monthly prize money is dependent upon the number of club members with half of the money collected each month being returned as the prize. The more people who join, the more money could be raised for the school and the higher the potential monthly prize. If the club was running at its full capacity, the monthly prize fund and in turn income for the school could be as much as £100! – That would be £1200 raised each year for the school.

Membership runs annually from May, but applications can also be taken throughout the year by arrangement with the PSA. Membership costs from just £12 a year (£1 a month) for one number but you can have as many numbers as you wish. Payment can be made monthly by standing order or yearly in advance by cheque/cash.
