I joined Bishops Down School Governing body in November 2017.
I have previously been a Chair of Governors and SEN Governor at Mascalls Academy in Paddock Wood. I began my working life as a medical secretary in London but since 2004 have worked as Operations Director for our own Business Training company, Athelbrae Ltd.
In my role I work with many businesses both in the public and private sector and as such am very aware of the requirement of young people to be engaged in lifelong learning, to have the skills and confidence to be team players, use their initiative and be able to problem solve and be empathetic to others. These are key skills that are learnt at a very early age and primary schools are vital to ensure that all children have both the academic and pastoral support to flourish to the best of their abilities and to provide them with a sound basis to develop in their future chosen path.
In addition to my work, I enjoy a number of volunteering roles, previously having been a bereavement counsellor for Hospice in the Weald, currently supporting Labrador Rescue Kent and Sussex in rehoming unwanted and abandoned labradors and have also recently qualified as a reflexologist. Our son and daughter are now married and my daughter in law is Head of Year 1 at a Primary school in Surrey, so I know well the challenges facing staff and children in the education sector, having to do more and more with less financial support from Central Government.
I am delighted to be joining an enthusiastic group of Governors at Bishops Down and hope to be able to put my previous experience in governance to good use.
