Term 3

Our topic is: Our topic is: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Our Power of Reading text this term is 10 Things I can Do To Help My World. This links with our Learning Journey of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Over the term we will be using discussion to explore ideas and opinions. We will be identifying ways we can conserve the world and use this to write in non-narrative forms.  In our lessons we will be looking at non-fiction books which will allow us to identify the key features of them, as well as enjoy an increasing range of books.

In Year 1 we follow the Inspire maths programme which is based on the Singapore approach. It is a mastery curriculum with an emphasis on conceptual understanding. Through the use of concrete resources, pictorial representation and practise books the children develop their mathematical skills and concepts. Over the course of the term we will be continuing with 2d shapes by getting to know patterns. This will then lead in to exploring 3d shapes and patterns. After this we will be learning ordinal numbers. The children will be learning to describe the positions of numbers using words such as before, last and after. Towards the end of the term we will be exploring numbers to 20.

This term we will continue to look at seasonal changes in our science lessons as well as learning more about materials. We will be comparing the weather in winter to the weather in autumn and will use a learning walk to gather our information. After this we will explore materials and use experiments to test the properties of different materials.
