Term 2

Term 2

Our topic is: Food, Glorious, Food.

This term we will be focussing on poetry and our Power of Reading text will be centred around The Puffin Book of Fantastic First Poems. Over the term we will be exploring, interpreting and responding to a range of poetry. We will examine the rhythms and rhymes that can be found in poems as well as using poetry as a stimulus for art. By the end of the term we will be both composing and performing our own written poetry. We will also be learning to write recounts, labels, lists and captions. The children will also be exploring features of instructions.

In Year 1 we follow the Inspire maths programme which is based on the Singapore approach. It is a mastery curriculum with an emphasis on conceptual understanding. Through the use of concrete resources, pictorial representation and practise books the children develop their mathematical skills and concepts. Over the course of the term we will be adding and subtracting numbers within 10 as well as identifying shapes and patterns. This term the children will begin to use their maths passports to practise their mental maths skills. Details to follow in the class weekly information letter.

This term we will be looking at seasonal changes in our science lessons. We will be identifying the changes through autumn, winter, spring and summer. A learning walk will help us to describe the weather in our current season and help us to see the changes in our environment.  In order to link in with our Learning Journey we will be looking at the foods that grow in the different seasons.
